Youth and Sailing Development
In 2014 we revitalised the youth Sail training program in Dinghy’s with the help of the Youth development committee headed up by Werner Hautmann and assisted by 8-12 volunteer coaches in Coaching youngsters in boat handling, Learn to sail and Learn to race.
The program is broken up into three sections being. Novice, Intermediate and advanced

TYC Youth Sailing Programme
Over the past 6 months we have had 6 sessions, and successfully grown the program and participation from 5 youngsters to over 35 active participants and have now grown the fleet to 17 Boats being; 7 Optimists, 3 Lasers, 4 Dabchicks & 3 Mirrors.
We can only accommodate a Maximum of 21 youngsters per weekend program, which are run at intervals of 5 Weeks (Refer to Schedule) (Click for Sailing Calendar / events)
Numbers are limited at this stage to 21 youth sailors, as we consistently have 8 coaches / assistant coaches available, with 3 sailors per coach; each coach has completed a SAS Level one Coaches Course.
The program is set up to include:
Lectures on sailing techniques, novice and intermediate, in the sail training room with DVD / YOUTUBE instruction,
Dry sailing instruction, boat terminology, parts about the boat and application of techniques learned in the class room. (tacking, balance, capsizing) “The 5 Essentials”
The sailing circle, wind direction, sailing angle, sailing on the water, (6 coaches will be on the water) 2 per rubber duck and Two on the Bridge Boat, Knots, Boat care and maintenance.
We split the group in two with Novice ( Oppies & Mirrors) with some fun Exercises and intermediate (Lasers and Dabchicks), and introduce the 14 essential Rules, racing rules and start procedures , sail trim and rigging, effective mark rounding and up wind speed.
The Program cost is R350, 00 per weekend inclusive of Lectures, Sail training, use of boats, lunch Packs, dinner Sleep over and Sunday Breakfast. The is an additional one off Cost of R30, 00 for a South African Sailing Log book.
A TYC Youth Regalia Pack inclusive of “Cap, T’Shirt, and Beenie” can be purchased at R175,00.
Safety and Skin Care:
Please ensure that your child has a hat, sun cream, (Life jackets are available), bootees, boat shoes sun glasses and a set of dry cloths.
Plan these Scheduled dates in your Diary we will endeavour at all costs to keep to the planned dates.
The Scheduled dates for the Sail / youth training for the rest of the year and first half of next year are as follows:

These dates are fixed in the Sailing Calendar, and we will endeavour to run all of them as planned.
