TYC Yacht Club

Commodore’s Communique (Oct19)

Hi Everyone

Apologies for not putting a Communiqué out in September. It was a rather eventful and busy month.

Our sailors have been shining again, very well done to Rohan and Adrian that were part of the South African Team to represent South Africa at the Optimist African Championships at the end of August 2019. They both did very well in rather strong winds. Rohan finished 11th and Adrian finished 36th in a very competitive fleet.

Adrian then put his experience to good use and won the Spring Grand Slam (Northern Region Provincials) at the Vaal dam the weekend of 7 and 8 September 2019. Very well done Adrian.

We had 1 boat representing TYC at Keelboat Week 2019 held at the Vaal over the long weekend in September. Hot Salsa skippered by Robin Paterson and crewed by Rob Wallendorf and Shaun Gurnell finished 4th overall a result that came down to a tie break. Awesome sailing guys.

Our youth were busy again the first weekend in October sailing the Boskop Open. Well done Rohan and Adrian finishing 3rd and 4th respectively. They are really excelling in their sailing and making our club very proud.

Thank you to all that attended the Family Braai day on 14 September, I think it was a very successful day and fun was had by all. I definitely enjoyed myself. Thank you all the ladies for decorating the tables and making the delicious salads.

Even though the day was a huge success it seems we have taken a loss too as 3 x Gold Framed Paintings /Portrait /Pictures are missing from our boardroom, if anyone saw anything or has any information please let us know.

Our annual Club Champs kicked off last weekend; we have 4 entries and unfortunately could not get on the water on Saturday as the Hyacinth prevented us from launching. The social on the veranda and around the braai was amazing.

We could get out on the water on Sunday morning and got started before 11am. We managed to get 4 light wind (with the odd stronger gust) races in and at least kept our course out of the approaching Hyacinth.

Club Champs continues this weekend and we have our Oktoberfest planned for Saturday from 12pm, so come down and support our sailors and club and enjoy a braai with us. Bring your own meat and pay R50.00 for an awesome assortment of salads made by our social committee.

Just a reminder to all from my previous Communiqué that if anyone is planning on cleaning out their kitchens and has anything to donate to the club, please let Fred know.
